The Dry Spell Ends
December 6, 2011 11:19 am

After one of the longest droughts in a many years, a quickie trip of 2 nights ends the dry spell. It may have well been the most hastily planned trip ever; I booked the first night at Rio the day before I left and the second at the Riviera minutes before I got in the car! It was the first weekend of NFR so the town was packed with cowboys and it also was the weekend of the Vegas Marathon, producing traffic hell on Sunday evening. I few thoughts from the trip...

  • This was, far and away, the busiest I have seen Vegas in several years. Despite my VERY non-cowboy upbringing, I seem end up here every year at the same time as the Rodeo and it has not been like this in a long time.
  • Further along those lines, the parking garage in the back of Mandalay Bay may be the largest on earth and it took me 15 minutes to find a spot on Saturday night at 8:00.
  • Every hotel now offers upfront purchase of late check-out. It was $28 at the Riviera for 6 PM.
  • Harrah's, err, Caesars Entertainment are the kings of the Vegas package deal. The people who brought you the "Buffet of Buffets" now offer pre-paid liquor deals. $35 gets you $50 in drinks, $75 gets you $100 at their many casino bars around town. Not a bad idea in any way!
  • The Riviera was the very last on the list... With my one night there, I have now stayed at every hotel on the Vegas Strip!

Stay tuned for reviews and room pics from Rio and Riviera as well as new property maps over the next few days.

I think congrats are in order for achieving that milestone of being a Strip Conqueror now! Kinda cool that your last hotel on the list is a legend of the Strip.

Robbie, Thank you very much! It is quite a feeling to have crossed every hotel off the list and even though the Riv is a legend, the old gal was looking pretty good with the recent improvements. Look for a full review this weekend.
